It was a long week for me last week, but my back is doing much better. So I hope to get back on track with my regular postings over here.

This card was done using a sketch from Kim’s blog. Kim is also on the justjohanna design team, and posts weekly sketch challenges on her blog. I had lots of fun with this sketch! All images from justjohanna.

I started out wanting to make this a black and white card, highlighting Annabelle by making her pink. I selected three different ribbons to go with the color scheme and set them aside. Then I used my SU! slot punch to make the big scallops on a scrap of Basic Black cardstock and doodled on it with my white gel pen. I then applied some removeable adhesive to the backs of the ribbon and scalloped cardstock, arranged them on the white pannel, then sewed down the ribbons with my sewing machine. (okay, so it’s really my Mom’s sewing machine that is making an extended visit to my home) *wink* Next I trimmed the ribbons and adhered the white panel to the Basic Black card base.

For the focal image, I stamped the Open Door Cage image on WW. I then stamped Annabelle perching on the open door, and on a scrap piece of WW. I stamped her on the bird cage so that when I paper pieced her together, I would have her legs already perching on the door.

I colored the images with Prismacolors, using Gamsol and a blending stump. Added some polka dots to the cage with my white gel pen, then pieced Annabelle to the front of the cage. I then cut out the image with my Coluzzle using the oval template and adhered it to Basic Black cardstock. I used scallop scissors to cut out the mat then pierced the scallops and highlighted them with the white gel pen. The focal image was then adhered with dimensionals and the sentiment “merci birdcage” was stamped above the ribbons.

I had so much fun with this sketch! I believe Kim posts a new one every Wednesday, so I’ll be sure to check back and see what she has posted for the week.
