I got a little silly last night and decided to make some cupcakes. But not just any cupcakes! One-eyed, one-horned flying purple people eater cupcakes! I seem to get inspirations from funny songs late at night. hahaha!

The cupcakes are spice cupcakes and sure smell good! In the picture it looks blue-ish, but they really are quite purple in person. I started by making the wings and the horns using chocolate. You work in reverse by outlinging what you want to make chocolate and then coloring it in after the outlines have had time to set for a bit. I learned this technique from the wonderful book The Whimsical Bakehouse which you can find at Amazon. (SCSers, be sure to click on the Amazon link on the SCS homepage to help support the site!)

Once the cupcakes were baked and cooled, I simply got my colored frosting ready and piped the tops of the cupcakes. For the eye I used the #12 point tip with white and the #7 point tip with black. The #7 point was also used for his smile which is a little hard to see in the photo, again in black. For the fur, I used the #22 point star tip with purple and then sprinkled some purple food glitter from Wilton for added fun. I then added the horn and the wings. To make the wings stay I cut a slice just below the top of the cupcake and slid them in.

So now I have a bunch of one-eyed, one-horned flying purple people eater cupcakes and we’re not sure what to do with them. I think we may be taking some over to Owen’s pre-school teaher and her family later today. I’m sure they’d get a kick out of them!
