Today I finished my first knitted hat!

I used the pattern for Basic Cable found in the Stitch ‘n B*tch NATION book by Debbie Stoller. (I’m not certain which one it is, so the link includes her current books)

This project was really fun. I learned how to knit in the round, cable stitch and decrease.

It’s fun to see it completed and Owen is already claiming it as his own.

He lucks out because he has the smallest head! LOL

Seriously, why can’t I follow the directions and have the hats I make turn out for adults? They always end up going to the boys. 😆

So pretty Emily I love the colors in the yarn. I just took my first crochet class last week and will be taking Knitting 101 at the end of this month. Seeing this hat makes me even more excited to learn how to knit. It looks great on Owen what a lucky boy he is.

  2. Emily, your first hat looks so great! If it is coming out smaller than it is supposed to, it could be one of two things. Your gauge is off (check your row gauge too) or the pattern is wrong. I love looking up patterns on ravelry before getting started to see if anyone has posted that the pattern runs small, etc…

Here’s the link to the pattern you used: Basic Cable Hat

I’d also recommend the Turn a Square hat if you are looking to make an adult man’s hat. It’s a great pattern (and it’s a free download)!

    Happy Knitting!
