d.c. part 2

With today being Veteran’s Day, I wanted to share with you what was the most emotional part of our trip to D.C. for me.

As we were walking to the Vietnam Memorial, Don was relating to me his experience when he walked the length of the wall for the first time a few years ago.

I knew it was going to be emotional.

I found myself wishing that it was clear of other visitors so that I could spend more time reading the names as I walked by, instead of feeling like I had to keep moving.

There was chatter, but it was quiet enough for me to let the experience soak in.

I spent a lot of time thinking of a boss that I had many years ago. He was one of the best people I’d ever have the pleasure of knowing. He fought in Vietnam.

He didn’t like to share many of his stories.

I thought of my Grandpa who served in WWII. Not many have been able to get stories out of him.

Thankfully Don has a knack, and was able to get him to share some stories my Dad had never heard several years ago.

I thought of my friends whose husbands currently serve. They sacrifice a lot to be away from their families.

And the families sacrifice a lot to stand by their husbands/fathers as they serve.

I am proud of these people and thankful.

Very thankful.
