august jj sketch

I’m finally up and doing LOADS better! I didn’t need any pain meds yesterday and my back has been doing really good today. It’s nice to get back to normal! Sitting doesn’t hurt and I can help out in my boys’ classrooms. Woo Hooo!! 🙂

Here are my samples for the awesome justjohanna sketch for August by Kim Frantz. I really like this square card set up!

I just love lafitte! He has a peg leg and an eye patch! I decided to color him like a seagull and really liked the way he turned out. It was one of the times that Don, my birder, commented on one of my bird coloring jobs, too. 😉 I used my Stamp-a-majig (one of these days I’ll take the time to check if I’m hyphenating at the right spots) to make sure I placed the pirate hat on his head properly. It’s a little hard to see in the picture sized down to fit here, but I also stamped the pirate hat and the pirate sword in Real Red on the Real Red strip. I then used my trusty White Gel Pen and paper piercer to spruce up the layout without getting “girly”. All edges were DTP’d and roughed up with my bone folder.

One of my favorite looks is the “out of the box” look. It’s when you stamp your image, then carefully cut so that you have some of the focal image coming out of the boundaries. The look of this card was inspired by Hilary who is also on the justjohanna Design Team. She has a shabby/fresh style that I really love to look at, and I’ve noticed that she often stamps the line images in a color opting to not color them in. I think that’s what gives her cards such an open and fresh look to them, and that’s what I attempted to do here. I really like the way that it turned out! It’s a nice alternative to always coloring in line images. Again, I used my White Gel Pen for the accents to help deifine the different layers of this sketch.

Just in case you missed it, Johanna has put out a Mini Design Team call! She’s looking to add to the Wing Team and you can get the details here: Mini Design Team Call and DT Call – Additional Info

I hope you’ll give it a try and good luck to those of you who apply!

Great cards and they are CASE-able, too! Yay! Next week………I’m stamping, oh yeah………I need to make a “boy” card for a birthday boy, and the top one will work very nicely. Thanks for inspiring me, Em. Who knows, maybe I’ll even bake a cake. 🙂
