How much fun is this?! This is the Father’s Day card that I made which inspired the Mother’s Day card. I had one of those “Ah HA!” giggly moments when an idea hits and turns out how you invisioned. All images from justjohanna.

Card base is Basic Black, cut at 4 1/4 then scored at 5 1/2 for this top folding card. WW panel is matted on Real Red.

I started by stamping chef chicklet and chicklet bbq in Palette Noir Black. What makes these particular images a real delight for me to stamp with, is that I helped to design them! I dressed the chicklet up as a little chef and drew the bbq to go with it. I was very excited when Johanna told me she’d like to make them into stamps! So much fun!

Next, I punched out the image using my Marvy Giga Circle punch. Then I drew in the ground and just a couple sprigs of grass. I also added the “smoke” coming from the top of the bbq. The images were then colored in with Prismacolors. You can kind of tell that I didn’t color in the apron solid. Instead I tried to create the white and red checked look by doing an open cross-hatch.

To complete the focal image, I used my Coluzzle to cut out the Basic Black matt. Then I used my Marvy Mega Scallop Circle punch on Real Red for the bottom matt. This is when the idea for the “ribbon” hit. I simply cut a length of wide red organdy ribbon and adhered it to the back of the focal image. Then I cut the edges into a “bird’s beak” and set the focal image aside.

I used my justjohanna alphabet (DT perk!) for the word “dad” and colored it in with Prismacolors. I felt that it still needed some sort of embellishment to balance the card, so I searched for some mini brads. I decided to use these square mini brads by Queen & Co., using my paper piercer and piercing guide to help me line up the holes. I then adhered the whole panel to the card base, and adhered the focal image with dimensionals.

Both my Dad and my Father-in-Law love to BBQ, so this will be perfect for both of them! I’ll have to figure out something for Don, since we don’t have a BBQ because we only have dirt in the backyard and who wants to BBQ in the dirt? Haha!
